The Soul Seekers is a saga written by Alyson Noel, author of the fairly popular “Immortals” series.
Confession: I read Fated and Echo (books one and two) many years ago, before the third was released. When the third installment did come out, I wasn’t paying attention and I didn’t realize it, and the series fell by the wayside of my bookshelf for a while. It wasn’t until more recently that I picked up Mystic and Horizon, and went ahead and re-read the first two, so I could finish the series and see whatever became of Daire and Dace.
Book one is called Fated. The following synopsis comes from Indigo.ca:
“Strange things are happening to Daire Santos. Crows mock her, glowing people stalk her, time stops without warning, and a beautiful boy with unearthly blue eyes haunts all her dreams. Fearing for her daughter’s sanity, Daire’s mother sends her to live with the grandmother she’s never met. A woman who recognizes the visions for what they truly are-the call to her destiny as a Soul Seeker-one who can navigate the worlds between the living and dead.
There on the dusty plains of Enchantment, New Mexico, Daire sets out to harness her mystical powers. But it’s when she meets Dace, the boy from her dreams, that her whole world is shaken to its core. Now Daire is forced to discover if Dace is the one guy she’s meant to be with…or if he’s allied with the enemy she’s destined to destroy.”
I remember when I read this book for the first time, I RAN (literally, it was within walking distance of my house) to the bookstore because I just NEEDED the second one. It had me hooked right from the beginning. Daire and Dace immediately became my number one favourite fictional couple, and they have remained that way ever since.
There is just something so captivating about the way Alyson Noel tells this story. She presents the physical setting so beautifully, and the emotion with which she describes Daire and Dace’s feelings is all but magical.
The language she uses is often very sophisticated, challenging her readers to expand their vocabulary in a way that not many YA authors do.
Following Fated is Echo. This book really intensifies the story in ways you won’t even imagine, leaving you absolutely begging for more as you turn that last page over.
Next up are Mystic and finally, Horizon.
I’m not going to give anything away in case you haven’t read any of this series yet, but I will tell you that things get CRAZY. This story goes in directions you wouldn’t even think of, and Alyson Noel delivers her plot twists exquisitely. This is a series that you DO NOT want to miss.
