I have been following Snow White’s Poison Bite for a LOT of years. I watched as they released their early music which was good, but very raw. I watched them go through a massive line up change, and come back stronger than ever.  You could say their music is a mix of post-hardcore, pop and punk, with some heavier elements mixed in. They have a lot of singles and a lot of really cool (and extremely horror themed) music videos. To date, they have released two full-length albums, both which tell a story. Yep, you guessed it, horror stories. They are very much a horror-themed band – and it’s seriously awesome.

Some History

The band was originally created by Allan “Jeremy Thirteenth” Cotterill, Juuso Puhakka, Tuomo Korander and Teemu Leikas in 2006, in Joensuu, Finland.

Snow Whites Poison Bite - underrated horror band

Cotterill was originally born in the UK, but had lived in Finland from the time he was six years old.

In May of 2009, the band went on tour as the opening act for American post-hardcore band Alesana. They also spent some time touring with Music Against Drugs, which is part of an organization called Youth Against Drugs.

Their debut EP Drama Through Your Stereo was released in February of 2010. Their debut full-length album The Story of Kristy Killings was released on October 27, 2010.

It was in 2011 that all but one member left the band, leaving Allan Cotterill the only remaining member. Later in the same year, the band announced the addition of three new members, and they began recording once again, coming out with Featuring: Dr. Gruesome and the Gruesome Gory  Horror Show on April 16, 2013.

Members:

  • Allan “Jeremy Thirteenth” Cotterill – lead vocals (2009–present), rhythm guitar (2006–present), clean vocals(2007-2009)
  • Emil “The Wizard” Pohjalinen – lead guitar (2014–present)
  • Hannu “Bobo” Saarimaa – bass (2012–present)
  • Dylan “Back Breaker” Broda – drums (2014–present)

Fun, Heavy, and Creepy At the Same Time

These are really the three best words I can think of to describe these guys. Their music, while catchy and poppy at times, can get heavy. The songs themselves, as well as their music videos, have a very creepy overtone. Horror is their theme and they stick to it. Whether they’re talking about murder, death, graveyards, or vampires, there’s always a story and it’s always got a creep factor!

At the same time though, it’s fun! It really is. Their music has so much energy and it’s catchy as ANYTHING. And one thing I really, really like, is that even when the band left singer Jeremy Thirteenth all alone, he managed to come back as strong as ever, but with the same sound! I mean yeah, it evolved and improved and it does feel more polished, but he didn’t deviate from the kind of music he clearly just loves to make.

Between full length albums, they released a single called ‘Valentines Doom’ and I think this is honestly one of my favourite songs. I think I’ve shared this song on my Facebook on February 14 for the last 5 years. It is a perfect example of creepy meeting fun and heavy meeting catchy.

A True Individual

I honestly have an incredible amount of respect for this bands frontman Jeremy Thirteenth. One thing I noticed about him right from the very start, when I found this band, was that he is not afraid to be himself. Not in the slightest. He makes the music he wants, no matter what anyone says. He wears a lot of makeup and face paint in his videos. He writes about killers and zombies and just general doom and gloom. Yeah, he’s a bit strange but that’s honestly what I love about him. Personally, I love the music and I think he is a very interesting person. I’d really love to have a conversation with him sometime. Pick his brain a little – maybe get some insight.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, this band just loves horror and they love music, and they do such a wonderful job at bringing the two together. If you’re a fan of  horror in general, I think you’ll like these guys. And if you’re a fan of pop, punk, metal, or – even better – a good mix of all three, you will like these guys too.
