I find The Promise Hero to be a very interesting little band. Their sound is fun, unique, and super high energy. Their latest effort from 2013, Deja Vu, embodies the sound perfectly; the simple, raw, and bouncy tone brings me back to some really old school Blink 182.
The opening track is a little slower and more lilting. While not the most common method, I think it works for them. It’s a really cute little song that has a bit of a swing to it, and it sets the tone for the rest of the album quite well, in my opinion.
This whole album is generally just very fun and kind of cute, in a very rock and roll sort of way.
“We all wanna stick around for the end of the world, and we all wanna fall asleep with someone we love”
“life’s moving faster every day, and nothing’s gonna slow it down”
It’s lines like these that gives this album a kind of summery feel. It’s the middle of winter in Canada (although at this VERY moment I happen to be in sunny Florida, yay business trips!) but these songs make me want to run outside in my shorts and tank top even with the snow, and pretend it’s sand and I’m on a beach instead.
The whole album gives off this vibe that just makes me want to drive around town with the top down on the convertible I totally wish I had, and sing it at the top of my lungs.
They make me want to sit around a campfire with all my friends, play them on the guitar, and sing along while we roast marshmallows and eat s’mores.
One thing I truly appreciate about this album, and the band in general, is that they don’t get overly complex with their music. For the most part they keep it simple, they keep it catchy, and they keep it fun. Don’t get me wrong, there’s certainly something to be said for intricate and complicated guitar solo’s and crazy drum sequences. Those can be fun and super cool to listen to, but I think there’s a lot of beauty in something that can captivate the listener and evoke emotion with just a few simple notes.
Conclusion
It’s fun, it’s cute, it’s catchy, and it’s the perfect soundtrack for your summer vacation. What’s not to love? You can read more about The Promise Here HERE.

Thank you for your love of music. It’s refreshing to see people envisioning the cars and summer vacation the music makes them want… The reference to Blink 182 is spot on and makes this 80s mama reminisce back to my youngin days. I’ll definitely be checking out The Promise Hero. I love punk rock and am excited for the new edition to my playlist. Thank you for sharing!
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! 🙂
Hi, Steph! Great review, but to be honest, I am not such a big fan of Blink 182. Do you have any other new band recommendations more in the line of old school punk such as Bad Religion, The Offspring and Green Day? These are more in line with my tastes 🙂
I would suggest checking out a band called Rites of Spring. The band didn’t last long and don’t have much music released, but what they did do is awesome!
I also like The Damned quite a lot, I think they would fall somewhat in line with Bad Religion and The Offspring.
I’m also a pretty big fan of Rise Against and Less Than Jake, I would say they are a little similar to Green Day. And maybe Three Days Grace. They’re a little bit heavier perhaps, but I quite like them as well.
It’s always so hard coming up with stuff on the spot lol but these are what came to mind – hope I helped!
Thanks for stopping by 🙂
